Mark Webber takes to the sky

The European Grand Prix has not been a good race for Australian Mark Webber. Starting second on the grid, Webber quickly dropped back to 9th place after going wide on the first corner.

Only ten laps into the race, Webber made an attempt to overtake Kovalainen, but instead hit the rear of his car and was flipped into the air. He landed upside down on the track, before bouncing upright again and crashing into the tyre wall. Amazingly Mark walked away from the car uninjured.

Kovalainen made a great observation of the crash, as was heard on the radio to his team: “I was defending and I think he ran into me.” Yes, yes he certainly did.

The race was won by Vettel, with Hamilton second and Button third. However Button, along with eight other drivers, will be under investigation after the race for driving too fast under Safety Car conditions. This may result in Button losing his third place finish.

AFL Round 11 Round-up

St Kilda JumperRound 11  kicked off with a bang with Saint Kilda vs Richmond. Saint Kilda sat 6th on the ladder and a win would put them 2nd. Richmond on the other hand were at the bottom of the ladder but a win for them would kick them up 3 spots.  The Saints had the stronger of the two starts in a low scoring opening quarter and they managed to pull away, until 6 goals to 2 in the 3rd term put the Tigers back in the game. But a strong finish from Saint Kilda saw them runaway 38 point winners, with Stephen Milne kicking 5 goals!

Though the highlight game of the round, in my view, had to be North Melbourne vs Brisbane. The Brisbane Lions were the hot favourites, coming off a surprise win over the Magpies last week. North Melbourne, however, had a shock loss to Fremantle by 61 points.

The Kangaroos got off to an amazing start, kicking 7 goals in the first term, going on to lead by 34 at quarter time and by 36 at the main brake. But a massive turn around by the Lions set us up for what was an amazing final term.

North Melbourne JumperThe Lions finished off strongly and with three minutes to go they took the lead. But when Drew Petrie took a mark with 50 seconds to go, people watched in awe as he stormed in and kicked a goal to give the Kangaroos a triumphant win by just 1 point!

It has just been confirmed that Rio Ferdinand, captain of the England World Cup 2010 team, has been dropped from the squad after injuring his knee in a training session earlier today.

The team only arrived in South Africa yesterday, in preparation for the World Cup, which starts in a weeks time. This was England’s first training session since arriving.

Steven Gerrard will take the place of captain, and Tottenham centre-back Michael Dawson will fly out to replace Ferdinand in the squad.

Brisbane Lions' Brendan FevolaThere were some great games of AFL this week but the best by far had to be Sydney vs Hawthorn. It was a close game which saw Lance Franklin kick three goals and Hawthorn win by two points.

Another great game was Brisbane vs Collingwood. The Pies were on a good role being second on the table, with winning four of their last five games. Brisbane on the other hand had lost their last four.

This was a close encounter to the end but two late goals by the Lions saw them win by eight points. Both Jonathan Brown and Brendan Fevola kicked four goals.
